Orlando di Lasso’s heavenly masterpiece soars to breathtaking new heights in this spine-tingling a cappella performance by the outstanding Los Angeles Master Chorale, devised by renowned theatre director Peter Sellars.

An achingly beautiful choral work too sublime to put into words, Lagrime di San Pietro was the great Renaissance composer Orlando di Lasso’s final and most famous composition. Completed just before di Lasso’s death, it conveys a powerful sense of mortality while vividly illuminating the Biblical story of St. Peter, whose grief after he denies Christ surges through this profoundly moving cycle of 20 madrigals (songs).

Cementing their place as one the world’s finest choral ensembles, the outstanding Los Angeles Master Chorale has taken di Lasso’s sacred polyphonic epic to the highest plane imaginable. Under Peter Sellars’ direction, their spine-tingling rendition matches seamlessly with elegant stage movement – a simple yet striking theatrical interpretation that demands near super-human vocal skill from the 21 singers.

For one special night only and coming to NZ exclusively for Auckland Arts Festival, experience the emotional riches of di Lasso’s crowning glory and the supreme talents of the Los Angeles Master Chorale in perfect harmony.
